Your Questions Answered
What is a psychiatric nurse practitioner?
Psychiatric nurse practitioners (PMHNP) are often referred to as 'advanced practice providers.' Their education path differs from that of a psychiatrist. Psychiatrists are medical doctors who specialize in psychiatry. Nurse practitioners earn their bachelors degree in nursing and pursue a masters degree to become a nurse practitioner. They also specialize and can practice in many different areas of medicine. Many psychiatric nurse practitioners establish private practices where we see patients for psychiatric evaluations and medication management.
What can a nurse practitioner do for me?
A psychiatric nurse practitioner can provide comprehensive psychiatric evaluation and medication management. We can prescribe medications, order and interpret lab and imaging studies, and manage care for our patients. We work collaboratively with your other care providers to ensure that your physical and mental health concerns are addressed.
What is your new patient procedure?
New patients will complete intake forms prior to appointment. The initial appointment will take approximately one hour of your time. During this visit, we will gather background information and current concerns. We will work together to develop a treatment plan and address medication needs.
Do you accept insurance?
We do participate with most commercial insurance plans. Some of these plans include: United Healthcare, Cigna, Geisinger, Highmark, Blue Cross Blue Shield, Independence Blue Cross, Tricare, Medicare. If you do not see your plan listed, please reach out to the office to confirm. If we are not in in network with your plan, you can also submit for reimbursement to your insurance company with a superbill. A superbill is a statement of service from a provider. The statement reflects the date(s) of service (DOS), the service code, the diagnosis code(s) and the billed amount from the rendering provider, along with their credentials.
We also offer reasonable self-pay rates. Please inquire.
